Artist Bio

As the middle child of seven growing up in rural Jackson County, West Virginia, I have always had an appreciation and love for art.  I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil, but didn't develop an interest in painting until I was in my thirties.  As a self-taught realist artist using acrylics as my medium, I have painted a wide variety of subjects; however, old barns, homesteads and wildlife are my favorite.  I draw much of my inspiration from God, my family, friends and living in the country.  I receive a lot of encouragement from my husband Joe and our two children, Jennifer and Jacob.  They are my best critics.

I have been a member of Allied Artists of West Virginia since 2009 and currently hold the position as Treasurer.  I have had my work published in the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Wildlife Calendar and most recently had a painting accepted into the West Virginia Wildlife Juried Exhibit at the Culture Center.  My work is currently on display at Art Emporium in Charleston, West Virginia.

I am very passionate about my art and cherish every moment that I am given to paint.

Artist Statement

I truly love to paint!  There is no better feeling than taking a blank canvas and bringing it to life with a paint brush and paint.  I can only hope that the people that see and purchase my paintings will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed painting them.  It is such a great feeling to see the look on someone’s face when I bring their pet to life on canvas or have painted an old homestead that holds memories of their childhood.

I don’t have an art education.  I thought growing up that art was something that we did for fun.  Don’t get me wrong, it is a lot of fun, but it never crossed my mind to get an art education.  I didn’t even call myself an artist for a long time.  I just paint from my heart and soul with a passion that words cannot describe and thank God for this wonderful gift.
